Rospotrebnadzor intends to develop a biochip to detect coronaviruses

The Blokhina Nizhny Novgorod Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, under the auspices of Rospotrebnadzor, is developing a biochip capable of detecting coronavirus and other community-onset pneumonias. According to the institute, a prototype will be developed after a study on the regional characteristics of pneumonia.

"We are working to create a prototype biochip to detect the pathogens responsible for community-onset pneumonias, including the SARS-CoV-2 virus. We plan to identify regional variations on the etiological structure of a community-onset pneumonia, which will determine the design of our prototype DNA biochip," according to a report on the institute's work available on the Rospotrebnadzor website.

In April, Rapid BIO and Avivir registered a rapid testing system that detects the quantity of virus-neutralizing antibodies developed after vaccination against COVID-19 with 96% precision. Earlier, at the end of 2020, the Vector Center (under the auspices of Rospotrebnadzore) announced that they were developing their own testing system.
