The Avivir medical mission is back in Chukotka

Free-of-charge medical examinations and consultations will be conducted by a cardiologist, neurologist and oncologists in Pevek and Bilibino. The Moscow-based doctors will see clinical patients and offer consultations to all interested persons. This trip will be organized within the regional Fight Against Cardiovascular Disease program, according to the Chukotka Information Agency.

The first group of doctors will arrive in Pevek on Tuesday, October 5. The arrival of specialists became possible thanks to the cooperation of the government of the Chukotka Autonomous Region with the Avivir Medical Center.

"The cardiologist, neurologist and oncologists are traveling as part of the governor's program. Their priority is to see our clinical patients, after which they can take appointments with all other patients. Their work is intended to combat the spread of cardiovascular disease. They arrive in Pevek tonight and will work there until Friday, October 8," said Marina Ostras, chief physician at the Chukotka District Hospital.

A similar group of medical specialists will arrive in Bilibino on October 8, where they will see existing patients and receive those who have made new appointments until Monday, October 11.

Cardiologists from the E.N. Meshalkin National Medical Research Center will also offer consultations free-of-charge in Anadyr on October 7, hosted by the Children's Clinic. A pediatric cardiologist, a pediatric ultrasound doctor and an arrhythmologist will examine patients under 18 years of age. The specialists will travel as part of a federal program to help national medical research centers offer care to patients in Russia’s more distant regions.

"They will see people who have already undergone heart surgery, or are on the waitlist for high-tech medical care. These doctors are not available for general appointments, as their work is highly specialized. However, we hope to partner with them to offer consultations for new adult patients," Marina Ostras said.

For reference, a group of doctors from the Avivir Medical Center, including cardiologists, a neurologist and an allergist-immunologist, held an open clinic for residents of Anadyr and Ugolnye Kopyi in August of this year. In 2022, as part of a joint project between Avivir and the management of Chukotka JSC, there are plans to build an infectious diseases center in Ugolnye Kopyi, equipped with the most advanced medical equipment available. The parties signed off on this plan at the Eastern Economic Forum in September of this year. This will mark the first implementation of a public-private medical partnership in Chukotka.
